MANUREWA BUILDINGS.
INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The building inspector, Mr. vY ells, employed by the Manurewa Town Board, reported to the meeting last evening in respect to the houses built without permits. In regard to the “benzine box” house, the inspector said the position was “pretty rotten” but he expected to achieve an improvement of about 75 per cent, in this building. The inspeector asked that he be placed on a proper footing in regard to the issue of permits. It sometimes occurred that he was asked to inspect buildings for which a permit had been given prior to his appointment having been made. The chairman thought it only a fair thing that this matter be gone into and a settlement arrived at. % Mr King: There is a lean-to being built by Sunday labour quite in defiance of the Board's requirements. Mr. Lupton: It is not fair to those who try to comply with the by-law. Mr Cox: The building inspector should have full power regarding the erection of buildings. The Chairmajj: I will move that the building inspector be given full power to carry out the building by-laws, and will hold him responsible for the ing a laudable effort to help the town This was carried without dissent. The matter of remuneration was left over until the next meeting.
