DRURY GOLDEN WEDDING.
On Monday, January 3, 1921, in the Drury Hall, a most successful reception was given to Mr. and Mrs. James Cossey on the occasion of their golden wedding. A sumptuous repast was provided and after the guests, numbering about 200. had done ample justice to the good things upon the tables, the Rev. O. R. Hewlett, in a very appropriate speech, proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, which was musically honoured with much enthusiasm. The rev. gentleman said it was not so much the length of a person’s life, but what they did, was what counted, and measuring Mr. and Mrs. Cossey’s life by that standard they had both done exceedingly well, having had a large share in subduing -the wilderness of Drury, as it was fifty years or more ago and brought up a large family of twelve children, who were all living except one and who were nearly all presnt. Mr. Cossy responded in 6 few words but, being slightly overcome by his feelings, was unable to say much. Mr. John Read, of Ponga, then proposed “The Bridesmaid ” (Mrs. McCrae, of Hunua) who was unable to be present on account of sickness ' and the “Best Man” (Mr. William Pollok, of Hunua), who was present but not at all well, having recently been thrown out of his cart and having his back and side hurt, so was not able to reply. This toast was also given with musical honours. The hall was then cleared for a social evening and dancing and a' very enjoyabl time ended in the small hours of the morning.
