A BUSY STAFF.
COUNTY OFFICE NOT OVERSTAFFED. The introduction of new blood to a local body very often results in some new methods being introduced, especially as far as the office curri-~ cuium is concerned. Recently some “young blood” was elected to the Franklin County Council, and soon after a new idea was suggested. This was done by Cr. H. 0. Mellsop, member for Awhitu riding, who suggested to the clerk, Mr. Alan A. Day, that a resume of the letters forwarded by authority of the Council be included on the agenda paper for councillors’ information. Mr. Day acceded to the request, merely as a trial. At Wednesday night’s meeting, Mr, Day mentioned that the inclusion of the outgoing correspondence on the agenda paper entailed a considerable amount of extra work.
During last month, according to the order paper, 145 letters were sent out by the Council’s authority. Mr. Mellsop said there was a lot of talk about the staff, and the fact of having his suggeestion given effect •to, as a trial, gave a good idea of what the staff had to do. He only suggested it to Mr. Day and he was glad he had given "it ' u trial. Cr, Wilcox said the Council - had carried on previously without having a resume of the outgoing correspondence before them, and he thought they continue without same. Mr. Day mentioned that there was a lot of work and the office was by no means overstaffed. Any councillor could peruse the correspondence file at any time he desired. The matter then dropped.
