DISTRICT NURSE

FOR SOUTH DISTRICT Following upon the report of a special committee which had been set up to investigate* the matter, the Otago Hospital Board at its meeting last night decided to appoint a district nurse in the south area between Bay View road and Cargill road, containing 2,105 houses. The chairman (Mr J. W. Dove) said district nurses were operating from northern centres. It was hoped by this means to return certain types of patients to. their homes, where they could be treated, thus freeing beds in the Hospital. A ’recommendation that the nurse appointed be permitted to spend two month* in Auckland studying the methods employed in the north was opposed by Mr A. Steel. He was supported by a majority of the board, and this recommendation in the ro port was deleted.
