Messrs J. Gilkison and A. Derby returned to invercargill by express this morning. The appointment of Mr T. S. Horn as Consul of the United States at Wellington was gazetted last night. The mayor. Mr A. H." Allen, returned from Christchurch'by the express yesterday.
The II N.Z.A.F. .. promotions which were gazetted last night include that of Group-captain A.- de T. Nevill, who is to be an acting ait commodore. According to a notice in last night’s ‘ Gazette,’ Second-lieutenant P. 11. Frcyberg has relinquished his commission in the 2nd N.E.E.F. on being appointed to a commission in the Grena*dier Guards.
The resignation, through ill-health, of Captain F. W. Roberts, master of the dredge Otakou, was accepted at last night’s meeting of the Otago Harbour Board. Captain Roberts has been, in the board’s service for the past 36 vears. Recognition of the recent marriage of Mr °A. Mcßae, a member of the board, was made at last night’s meeting of the Otago Harbour Board, when the chairman, Mr R. S.. Thompson, on behalf of members, presented him with an antique copper fire screen. Remarking that he believed this to be the first time' one of the board had married while a member, Mr Thompson wished Mr Mcßae every happiness. Latest registrations at -the Grand Hotel include Mrs R.
