ABUSE OF TRUST
CARETAKER SENTENCED (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 19. On a charge of the theft of goods belonging to tenants of a city building, of which he was caretaker, John Livingstone Fisher, aged 58, was sentenced in the Police Court to-day to 12 months’ imprisonment. He pleaded guilty. The police said that Fisher was the caretaker of the Palmerston Building for 15 years. He admitted stealing goods valued at over £IOO. Fisher was addicted to drink, and he was recently taken to hospital suffering from alcoholic poisoning. His wife was ill, and was not expected to recover. “ Fortunately instances of caretakers abusing their trust and resorting to thefts are extremely rare,” said the magistrate, Mr J. H. Luxford, “ but when they occur it is not a case for leniency.”
