ARM LOPPED OFF
GIKM. FORTITUDE OF TAXI-DRIVER (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 16. Remarkable fortitude was shown bjj a taxi driver, Mr Arthur Raynor Lowe* aged 46, married, of King’s View road. Mount Eden, who had his right arm dismembered above the elbow as the result of a blow from the overhang of a. passing truck at Penrose tonight. Mr Lowe was driving two fares out t® Otahnhu, and when the accident occurred he turned to his passengers and before stopping his car casually remarked that his arm had been' torn off* A tourniquet was applied to the arm, and Mr Lowe was then, taken back to the city by a passenger on an incoming bus which had been stopped. On arrival at the admitting department of the Auckland Hospital _Mr Lowe walked into the office unaided and gave particulars of the accident before being taken to a ward. > His condition late to-night was considered t» be fairly satisfactory, although he in suffering from shock.
