PERJURY CHARGE
FORMER PORTER ACQUITTED The hearing of the charge of perjury against Thomas Cosgriff, a farmer railway porter, was concluded before Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court last night, when the jury, retiring at 9 p.m., returned 23 minutes later with a verdict of not guilty. The charge arose out of Police Court proceedings following a railway crossing accident at Green Island 12 months ago. Th* evidence taken during yesterday was on similar lines to that heard in the’ previous case in which Christopher Arthur Butler, also charged with perjury arising out of the same set of circumstances, was found not guilty. Before discharging the jury last night His Honour remarked that be thought it proper for him to say that Mr T. O’Shea had been assigned by him to defend the accused, and the court was indebted to Mr O’Shea for bis very competent conduct of the case.
