DIEGO SUAREZ GARRISON

MANY NOW WITH ALLIES (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 11.20 a.m.) RUGBY, October 12. Three-quarters of the Diego Suare* garrison who fought the British are now fighting for the Allies., To-day 950 of these French officers and men are numbered among the Fighting French. Of the survivors of the garrison half joined General de Gaulle immediately. Of the remaining half who were brought to Britain, half have since joined General de Gaulle, making three-quarters of the survivors of the garrison. They were entirely free to make their choice between joining the Allies and applying for repatriation to France. No pressure was exerted upon them.
