COMMUNITY SING

The weekly sing was held to-day in the Strand Theatre, when a very large attendance y?as present. Singing was again up to the high standard. A new hymn for today was introduced. The words, which are admirably suited to the times, were specially written and were donated to the sing. A special attraction was the first appearance of the ladies’ choir from Reckitts Ltd., conducted by Miss E. Taylor, and their singing was very much enjoyed. Mr H. P. Desmoulins was leader) with Mr J. F. Himburg assisting and Mr Alf. Pettitt at the piano. To-day was again a special appeal for the weekly parcels for prisoners of war, and the response was very good. The following donations were received:—£lo, Wellwisher: £s—Reay family (Waronui), Anonymous, Anonymous (St. Kilda), 107 Highgate; £2 —Mr Barclay (31 Melbourne street), Mother and Daughter; £l—Outran), Mrs John O’Neill (Kanfurly), Prisoner’s Aunt, Mrs Winn (11 Magdala street, Tainui) Mrs Hughes (Wylie’s Crossing), Mrs W. E. Reynolds, Wellwisher, Kia Ora (weekly), Miss Potts; 10s —J. (Mosgiel), Milton, Wellwisher (N.E.V.), Mrs Mason; ss—E. Scott, No Name Preston Crescent, Scotty (N.E. Valley); ss—-Norraanby (weekly); goods— Mrs J. C. McGeorge (weekly), Gran. (Christchurch); plants—Jackson street (St. Kilda). A small boy and his sister, wishing to assist, donated their wee Pom., which was sold for £l. The collection amounted to £55.
