INCREASED WAGES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—As I have been an employee of the City Corporation for a number of years. I would like very much if the City Council could furnish me with something definite as to the increase in wages that has been expected for some time now. I understand this increase is to take place from March 1, 1942. I think something should be done immediately, as present wages are not sufficient to keep the wolf from the door, with the prices one has to pay nowadays for the commodities of life., more especially now that some of the work has been deemed an essential industry, and one cannot leave the job to go to another with higher wages. Other essential industries are making double the wages that we are, and have not got to work as hard as we have with an anchor, pick, and shovel.—l am, etc., September 3. Waiting. [An agreement in this matter has pow been reached, and particulars were received by the clerk of awards yesterday. Copies are now being sought by the City Council, and as soon as they are obtained the terms of the agreement will be made effective. Ed. E.S.]
