CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The R.S.A. has taken exception to the employment of a conscientious objector’s wife by the council, and the town clerk replies that it is not the policy of the department to inquire into the beliefs of its employees. I maintain that the council has no right to adopt this attitude. It is representing (or is it?) the majority of the citizens, and the citizens of this town, unless I am much mistaken, very definitely resent conscientious objectors. These people may be sincere, though narrow in outlook, but there is a war on, end he that is not with us may be against us. Objectors may he potential enemies, therefore keep them where they can do no harm. I know that discrimination is hateful, but toleration of this kind may cost much.—l am, etc., September 1. Duty First.
