Mr S Ritchie, of Christchurch, has been reappointed a conciliation commissioner. A notice to this effect was gazetted last night. Mr V. C. Peters, who judged the vocal section at the Dunedin Competitions Society’s festivals in 1940 ami ‘ 1941. is visiting Dunedin, and was pre-., sent at last night’s session- of the competitions , Mr H. Temple White, who has been adjudicating in the vocal sections of the Dunedin Competitions Society’s festival, will leave to-night on his return to Wellington.
Mr •). S. Douglas, who has been reelected treasurer of the United Congregational Church, has completed 50 years of service as a church treasurer. Commencing in that office at the Leith: Street Congregational Church, lie continued the duties when it and the King Street Congregational Church were merged under the title of United Congregational Church. A ‘ Gazette ’ notice published last night states that the following have been appointed members of the Dairy Factory Managers’ (Registration Board: (Mr W. E. Scott (New Zealand Dairy Board), Mr J. McK. McDonald (dairy factory managers), Professor William: Riddet (Massey. College), and Mr G. M. Valentine (Department of Agriculture) . Mr A. E. McKinnon has been appointed secretary of the Education Department following the retirement on superannuation of Mr A. J. H. Benge. Mr McKinnon, who joined the department in 1914, enlisted for war service in 1917. He returned to the department in 1919, and was later appointed senior clerk in the accounts branch. la 1935 he was appointed inspecting accountant, and afterwards accountantand secretary of the Teachers’ Superannuation Board,
At a special meeting of the Mpsgiel , Borough Council last evening the mayor (Mr W. P. Hartstonge) referred to the tragic death of the Duke of Kent, and . the council stood in silence for a few moments as a tribute of respect to his memory.
