BURNSIDE MARKET
The number of fat cattle penned at Burnside to-day was 330. The quality generally was not as good as last week. All classes met with a ready sale. The market opened firm, and there was a general improvement as the sale progressed. The last two races showed an improvement of £1 and £2 5s a head on the opening rates. Cows, which were forwarded In larger numbers, were easier by 15s to £1 a head, while heifers maintained late rates. Extra prime bullocks brought up to £23 2s 6d, prune £lB 7s 6d to £2O 2s 6d, medium £l6 12s 6d (o £l7 17s 6d, light £ll 7s 6d to £l2 17s fid. Extra prime heifers made up to £l4 17s fid, prime £lO 12s fid to £l2 12s fid, medium £9 12s fid to £lO 7s fid, and light £7 12s fid to £9 2s fid. Extra prime cows brought up to £l6 12s fid, prime £9 2s fid to £lO 17s fid, medium £7 12s fid to £8 12s fid, and light £5 7s fid to £6 7s fid. The entry of fat sheep was similar in size to that of last week. Approximately 1,900 were yarded. The demand for goodclass wethers was firm, while medium sorts were better by from Is to 2s a head. Ewes, which did not show the quality of last week, were firm, being & better, 'while medium sorts showed a further improvement. Prime heavy wethers made up to 465, prime 39s fid to 425, medium 55s fid to 37s fid, light 30s to 525. Prime heavy ewes 33s 9d, prime 29s to 31s fid, medium 27s fid to 28s fid, light 17s fid to 19s. There, was light entry in both the porker and baconcr sections, and prices from the outset were better by fis to 7s a head. •Owing to the short supply, the demand’ was keen throughout. Baconers made up to 9|d lb, and porkers from lid to 12d. Best baconers realised £5 18s to £6 16s, medium £4 14s to £5 Bs, light £3 19s to £4 Bs. Best porkers from £3 17s to £4 9s, medium £3 11s to £3 14s, light £2 18s to £3 ss. The entry for store pigs was a small one, and prices generally for all descriptions showed an improvement on last week, best wcaners making from 28s to 31s, medium 24s fid to 26s fid. In store cattle the yarding was a small one, there being only one pen of bullocks, the balance being made up of cows and young sons. A pen of three-year-old steers made £ll ss, while cows made from £4 8s to £5 fis. The entry in the vealer section was again small, the quality, however, being fairly good, best runners making up to £7 4s, while suckers could be quoted from £4 17s to £6 7s fid.
