HOCKEY

REPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES Hockey of a high standard was provided at the Ova! on Saturday afternoon, when Canterbury and Otago representative Services teams met. The Canterbury team, which won by 5 goals to 1, played with excellent combination, and its stick work and positional play were superior to that of the home team. C. Stafford, on the left wing, gay.e a fine display in some clever passing rushes, and in the Otago team W. Boocock’s defence of the goal and M. Hughes’s play in the forwards were outstanding features. E. Alien and P. McCormack each scored two goals for Canterbury, and T. Burt one. B. Ryeburn, the captain of the Otago team, gained the only goal for Ills side. The umpires were Messrs F. Iggo (Canterbury) and H. Sew Hoy (Otago). The Otago Men’s Hockey Association also conducted a seven-a-side tournament on Tonga Park for the junior players. The results were: King Edward Technical College Old Boys, 9 points, 1; University A, 7 points, 2. WOMEN’S MATCHES. Two Otago women’s representative hockey teams played matches against teams from South Otago on Saturday. The play was of a high order, tho local teams appearing to bo slightly better trained than the visitors. An outstanding player in the main match —Otago I. v. South Otago I.—was Miss Hurley, of the King’s Club, who scored four of the six goals which her side obtained. Miss Robertson, also a member of the Kings Club, gained the other two. Misses J. Carson and J. Loper each scored for South Otago, and Miss M. Bratton, a full-back, and Miss E. Ceilings, a half-back, each played sound hockey. The final score was: Otago I. 6, South Otago I. 2 In the match Otago A H. v. South Otago 11. the outstanding player was the centre forward, Miss Middleton, of the Momona Club, who scored three goals lor Otago. Miss W. Ryan, on the left wing, and Miss M. Lindsay, the left-inner, made a fine combination for Otago, while Miss M. Buchanan played a sound game for the South Otago team. The final score wis: Otago 11. 3, South Otago 11. 0.
