A.R.P. AND LIFE SAVING
PRESENTATION OF CERTIFICATES The members of the Kaikorai warden and life-saving classes spent an enjoyable evening on Thursday, the occasion being the presentation of A.R.P. certificates and Royal Life Saving Society certificates to the successful candidates. Mr A. F. Lindsay, district warden, presided. Mrs Bruce Smith, vice-president of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, in presenting the certaificates, congratulated the district on its enthusiasm and expressed pleasure that the classes were not confined to wardens only, but included householders and other E.P.S. workers; also the groat need to extend the work of life saving and A.R.P. When Mrs Agnes Kirby was handed her certificate she was congratulated upon having been the means of saving her grandchild’s life from gas poisoning. Mr Charles J. Hayward (A.R.P. instructor) was the recipient of a fountain pen from the wardens in appreciation of his work. Mr Dave Pickard also received a similar token from the life saving class. .Vocal items were rendered by Mr and Mrs Stuart Falconer, Mrs John Macfarlane, and Messrs Arthur Robertson and James Paterson, and some excellent E.P.S. moving pictures taken by Mr Douglas Ritchie, district warden in Pine Hill, were screened. The following received their certificates during the evening;—Lifesaving: Mrs Agnes Kirby. Misses Irene Finnic, June Anderson, and Mr G. McCrone. A.R.P. (with honours) : Mrs A. S. McCroslie, Miss M.
