POLICE COURT
MONDAY. AUGUST 31. (Before Mr H. W. Bnudle, S.M.) OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Pleading guilty to having used obscene language and to behaving’in a disorderly manner iu a public place, Thomas CunLiß'Jigs, for whom Mr A. G. Neill appeared, was fined £5 on each charge, in default 21 days’ imprisonment.—Senior-ser-geant Black said that defendant, who was a boarder at a private hotel in the city, had, while intoxicated, repeatedly used the langnuage in the hotel dining room and also in the street—Mr Neill said that drink had been the trouble. "Defendant had become aimoyad at something the waitress had said and had lost his head. REMANDED. William Thomas Moulin (Mr C. J. L. White), charged with having indecently as- % saulted a male, was remanded until September 9, bail being allowed in the sum of £IOO, with one surety of £IOO. BURGLARY AND THEFT. A charge of burglary was preferred against Ronald Myron Dey (20) and John Peter Franks (18), it being alleged that they broke into the bar and bottle store of tho Grand Hotel and stole money and liquor to the total amount of £9 16s Bd. Dey was further charged with having broken and entered the shop of Cameron’s Central Pharmacy and stolen goods to the value of £1 5s 6d, and Franks with having stolen two bottles of liquor valued at 14s, the property of Arthur A. Paape. The thefts were alleged to have been committed between August 15 and 17. Mr O. G. Stevens appeared for Dev. Frank Mitchell Paape, manager _of the Grand- Hotel, gave evidence regarding the missing money and liquor. The two cash registers had been opened and the money (£5 6s 2d) abstracted. Both youths had been employed at witness’s hotel at the same time.
Evidence by Detectives Brown and McDou. gall, who had interviewed the accused, disclosed the fact that both the youths had admitted the charges and that entrance had been gamed to the bar by the use of the knife obtained from the porters’ lodge. On th charge against Dey of breaking and entering tho shop of Cameron’s Pharmacy evidence was given by Ewen Pinkerton "Cameron, manager, and by Detective Brown. In this case the theft was committed bv the accused placing his hand through a slot iu the door and abstracting the articles. Both accused pleaded guilty to all charges and were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
