SEAMAN BAYONETTED
ENCOUNTER WITH WHARF GUARD [Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Octobers. Andrew Sim, an able seaman on s.s. Kakapo, is in Auckland Hospital recovering; from a bayonet wound. He was admitted following an encounter with sentries at an armed guard post on the waterfront From official quarters it was learned that Sim is alleged to have climbed over a barbed wire entanglement The sentry ordered Sim not to climb the barrier but he jiersisted. and the corporal of the guard came along. The corporal assumed, it is stated, that Sim offered to fight him Sim made threatening rushes at the corporal, who immediately came to the on-gnard position with bis rifle, and it is alleged that Sim’'ran against the bayonet. Sim’s condition is reported to be satisfactory. and ! be is making progress.
