RADIO PROGRAMMES

CHANGES NEXT WEEK HEW DAVENTRY TIMES From Sunday a number of changes will be made in the time schedules of programmes broadcast by the national stations. These include a retiming of rebroadcasts from Daventry, the new daily arrangement being:—6 a.m., news and nows commentary (direct broadcast); 7 a.m., broadcast of recording taken at 6 a.m.; 8.45 a.m., nows rebroadcast (direct); 1.15 p.m., broadcast of recording of news received from Daventry at 1 p.m.; 6.15 p.m., news (direct); 9 p.m., New Zealand newsreel (compiled from all sources —a review of the day’s news); 11.30 p.m., news and topical talk (direct). The 11.30 rebroadcast will hold good only until and including October 5, and thereafter will take place at 11 p.m. The official news service usually broadcast from 7 p.m. will be superseded by a short summary of local news, followed from 7.10 by the routine farmers’, book, motoring, or gardening talks. The concert programme will in future commence at 7.30 instead of 8. The nightly weather report and station notices will be given at 8.57. The Daventry news summary previously broadcast at 9 p.m. will be substituted by a 9 p.m. new 20-minute “ newsreel ” compiled by the N.B.S. from all news received throughout the day; DavciTtry bulletins, British official wireless, news from the Prune Min-

ister’s Department, Press Association cables, extracts from talks, and official statements. * The main stations will remain open until midnight (as has been the case during the last 12 months) until October 5, when, following the change in time of the last London rebroadcast, closing down will be at 11.30 p.m. There will also be an extension of the broadcasting times of auxiliary stations to cover the period 6 p.m. to 7 p.m,. so that they can be used as alternatives to rebroa'dcasts from Daventry.
