RUGBY SEVEH-A-SIDE TOURKEY The Rugby season will Be brought to a close on Saturday with a seven-a-side tournament, arrangements for which wore made at the meeting last night or the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union, the president (Mr D. C. Jolly) being in the chair It was reported that 30 teams had entered—eight senior, 11 second grade, and 11 third grade. The draw for the tournament is as follows: First Grade (at Carisbrook).— Pirates v. Dunedin; Union v. ZingariRicliniond, Alhambra v. Southern, University v. Taicri. Entries for the second and third grades were received as follows: Second Grade (at Carisbrook and Bathgate Park).—Taieri, University, Southern, Alhambra, Training College, West Taieri, Port Chalmers, Union, Pirates, Dunedin, Air Force. Third Grade (at Bathgate Park). — Ravensbourne, Alhambra, Kaikorai, Zingari-Richinond, Dunedin, Southern, Pirates A, Union, Port Chalmers, King’s High School, and Green Island. The referees will be:—At Carisbrook: Messrs J. B. Burton, S. Gibson, D. A. Kilgour, S. J. M'Connell, E. Heather, and A. Parker. At Bathgate Park; Messrs J. Simon, J. Frood, G. Little, and J. Garside. The finals of all grades will be played at Carisbrook. SPORTS GALA DAY, The Secretary reported in connection with the gala day at tho Caledonian Ground on October 5, and said that among the attractions being arranged was a football match between ladies’ teams representing basketball and hockey. It was hoped to arrange a basketball match betw’een a ladies’ team and a referees’ team. Otago Boys’ High School and King’s High School were staging displays, men’s and women’s hockey teams would be taking part, there would be a footballers’ relay, and school and interclub athletic events. KAIKORAI CLUB SUCCESSES. The Flag Committee recommended that Kaikorai be declared the winners of the third grade (section I.) and fifth grade competitions.—The recommendtions were adopted, and it was decided to forward a letter of congratulation to the Kaikorai Club. PUBLIC SERVICE’S FINE EFFORT. The Secretary of the Public Service Army Queen Committee (Mr G. A. Broadley) wrote thanking the _ union ,for tho assistance in connection with the Public Service football match. He also thanked the gatekeepers for giving their services gratuitously. Tho assistance given by all was much appreciated, and contributed largely to the success of the afternoon as a result of which tho Army Queen’s fund would benefit to the extent of approximately £l5O. GENERAL. The Kaikorai Club was granted permission to use Bishopsconrt Ground on Saturday for the purpose of holding a club day. Christian Brothers’ High School was granted the use of Carisbrook for its annual sports meeting "ou Tuesday, October 22. SOCCER O.F.A. COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of tho Management Committee of tho Otago Football Association was held last night, Mr M. K. Haig occupying the chair. Tho senior competition was declared closed, Mosgiel being the winners and Northern the runners-up. It was decided that the captains of the winning teams in the grade competitions be invited to attend next week’s meeting of the committee for the purpose of receiving the trophies won by the teams. It w : as agreed td play the match for the Chinese Cup between Mosgel and Northern on Saturday, at Logan Park. Mr P. George was appointed referee. It was resolved to circularise the clubs, inviting entries for an Association footballers’ relay race, to be held in conjunction with the sports gala in aid of the Queen Carnival on, October 5. •
