SICK AND WOUNDED FUND
APPEAL CLOSED IN JUNE ANSWER TO CRITICS [Pan United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 24. When the Auckland telegram in re complaints against the Bed Cross continuing to raise funds for the sick and wounded was referred to Major Abel, who is bon. Dominion treasurer and hon. organiser for that appeal, he said the appeal was finally closed in June, and no individuals or organisations, or even the'Joint Council itself, was in order in promoting functions or endeavouring to raise funds for the sick and wounded. Every branch had been circularised to that effect many weeks ago. “Of course.” lie added, “it is still legal for the Joint Council to receive direct donations to the fund, but definitely not in order to promote moueyrnlsinar functions.”.
