EDUCATION IN OTAGO
BOARD S MONTHLY MEETING Tho monthly meeting of the Education Board was held to-day, the chairman (Mr James Wallace) presiding. ARCHITECT’S RECOMMENDATIONS. In connection with the George Street Committee’s application for renovation of the infant department and the special class room, the Architect reported that the infant room was last renovated 15 years ago and now required attention. The Special class room and standard I. room, although renovated 12 years ago, also required attention again. The estimated cost was £94.—lt was decided to grant the application. The Architect reported on the Mornington Committee’s application for attention to the plastered ceilings, which were badly cracked. The ceilings in six classrooms and two short corridors showed signs of failure. It was difficult to say how long the ceilings would remain without pieces dropping out. The estimated cost of new ceilings was £l6o.—The architect’s report was approved, and he was authorised to act in the matter. DEPARTMENTAL GRANTS. The Education Department intimated that a grant of half-cost of material and foreman’s wages would be made for concrete work at Eorbury School, and the whole cost of wages under scheme No. 13.—The Secretary reported that the total cost would he £7OO for material, and tho cost to the board would be £350.—1t was decided to accept the grant. The Education Department advised that it would make a grant to meet the cost of additional concrete work at the school.—The Secretary reported that the department had offered to pay for the cost of material and £4 a week for the men’s wages. The board had men working on a full subsidy, and it might be possible to utilise them. Failing this, the cost to the board would be about £ls. Tho grant was accepted. RESIGNATIONS AND APPOINTMENTS. Resignations were accepted as follows:—Principal, John A. Moore, Training College; sole teachers—Colin C. Gillies, Moa Creek; Kenneth R. Wood, Ratanui; Errol R. Brain, Sutton ; assistants—Robinson R. M'Neill, Kaikorai; Lillian E. ' Terry, Waitaliuna; Mabel L. Bohm, North-east Valley. Appointments were confirmed as follows Sole teacher, Bernard J. Jefferson, Te Houka; assistants—Harry 0. Rosevear, Balclutha; Evelyn M. Dunne, Duntroon; Eileen M. SprouTe, Forbury; Kenneth R. Wood. Mornington; Robinson R. M’Neill, North-east Valley; Barbara Sim, Oamaru North: snecialist assistant in arts and crafts, Murray A. Stevenson, Macandrew Intermediate. War appointments: Sole teachers—Joseph _F. Urquhart, Buscot; Charles A. Baird, Otokia; assistant, Catherine D. Rodgers, Clutha Valley D.H.
