OTAGO CENTRE MEETING The monthly meeting of tho Otago Centre of tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held last night, the president (Mr C. W. Clark) being in tho chair. COUNCIL FEES. Tho lion, secretary of the New Zealand Council (Mr H. M’Cormick) wrote with reference to the Roxburgh and Alexandra Clubs going into recess for tlio war period. The foes for the Roxburgh Club had already been waived. In the case of the Alexandra Club it was felt ttiat as the club had the necessary funds it should bo called upon to pay its duos to the council for this year. .—jt was decided that as the Alexandra Club had handed its funds to the Government to assist in the war effort the centre should meet the dues owing to the New Zealand Council. POWERS OF HANDICAPPER. Tho Secretary of the New Zealand Council advised” that the Management Committee had ruled that a handicapper could alter his declared handicaps only in the event of the postponement of anv race or event or in order to “ penalise ” an athlete in accordance with the rules. In this case it was to bo noted that the penalties could be enforced only for handicaps in which tho athlete might compete “ during the four days following such wins,” and that the penalties did not apply to wins on the same day at tho same meeting, and that the words ” subsequent race or event ” must be so interpreted. It followed that the handicapper of the recent Teniuka-Timaru road race was not in order if he altered his declared handicaps in tho manner stated. GENERAL, The secretary (Mr J. G. Barnes) intimated that owing to pressure of other duties he would be unable to take office durum the coming season, the matter being held over until the annual ingMr C. W. Clark was appointed to represent the centre at a meeting being held to-morrow night in connection with a gala sports day at the Caledonian Ground on October 5, the proceeds being in aid of the patriotic funds. The secretary of the Caledonian Society (Mr J. S. Douglas) advised that the Caledonian Ground would bo closed for one month from October 1 for top dressing. „ _ ~ Messrs 0. W. Clark and A. R. Geddes were appointed to represent the centre at a meeting being called by the Dunedin Physical Welfare and Recreation Committee to consider the formation of a Federation of Sport. A. (R. Duff was granted a transfer from the University Club to the Civil Service. . Mr F. Sanders wrote concerning the possibility of the High School Ex-girls’ Basketball Club extending its activities to form an athletic club. —The Chairman expressed pleasure at the possibility of a new club being formed, and it was left to him to assist in the formation of the club. The Chairman congratulated A. H. Campbell, of the Baptist Club, on winning the Port road race, and G. L. Austin, of the Caversham Club, on securing fastest time.
