The following office-bearers wore elected for the ensuing year:—President, Sir D. Hunter; immediate past president, Mr S._Rafiills; vice-presi-dents, Messrs C. Acnward and H. J. Millow; committee—Messrs S. Medder, W. Young-, I. Hodding. H. Border, A. Mitchell; L. Griffiths, J. Chapman, J. Jackson. Ql. F. Peters, G. Peatc, and A. Everest; joint secretaries, Messrs R. Joyce and 01. Wilson; treasurer, Mr W. T. Bruiley; auditor, Mr C. A. Wilson. Considerable discussion ensued upon the introduction of a suggestion that bait-casting should he prohibited on rivers in Otago. The argument ranged from the desirability of the present size restrictions existing in various parts of Otago to the relative tolls taken of fish by anglers and shags The bait-casters were defended by Mr H. G. Williams, who said that the exponents of the dry fly took far more fish than anyone else, and then the speaker told the meeting something of the results of his researches into the habits and appetites of shags. It was decided to urge the Otago Acclimatisation Society to prosecute the destruction of shags relentlessly.
