NO SUNDAY CONCERTS
COUNCIL CONFIRMS ATTITUDE CARNIVAL COMMITTEE FAILS A special meeting of the City Council was held last night for the purpose of receiving a deputation from the Queen Carnival Committee concerning the matter of Sunday concerts in connection with the carnival campaign. The council had, at its ordinary meeting last week, declined a request from the Otago queen carnival executive for permission to hold a concert under the auspices of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association in the Regent Theatre on Sunday, September 29, in aid of the Navy Queen. After hearing the deputation last night the council decided to adhere to its previous decision, so that the prohibition of concerts on the Sabbath still stands. The discussion on the matter was taken in committee.
