BINOCULARS APPEAL
A GENEROUS RESPONSE DEFENCE MINISTER THANKS CONTRIBUTORS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 17. “ The response to the recent appeal for binoculars, telescopes, and prismatic compasses has been most satisfactory, and I wish again to thank all who have so generously responded ” said Mr Jones (Minister of Defence) in a statement to-day. “ As I stated in launching the appeal, it has not been possible for us to obtain these essential instruments overseas, and those now received are a welcome addition to the equipment of our forces. “ The returns arc still coming to hand. So far wo have received 483 pairs of binoculars, 125 telescopes, 101 prismatic compasses, in addition to sundry items such as barometers, map cases, message case holders, telescope tripods, dial sights, and many others which will also prove valuable.
