The Right (Rev, W. A. R. Fitchett, Bishop of Dunedin, visited Lumsden on Wednesday and conducted a confirmation service at Balfour that night. Lieutenant-colonel F, K. Turnbull has been appointed officer commanding the brigade units at the Trentham Mobilisation Gamp, - -according ’./to. 5 a ‘ Gazette ’ notice published last night, in place of Lieutenant-colonel L. H. Jardine, who has resumed command of the Taranaki (Regiment for intensive training. The directors of the South British Insurance Company Ltd. have appointed Mr W. E. Bush to succeed Mr J. J. Kingston as manager of the Auckland branch of the company. Mr Bush has been chief clerk in the branch office for the past 24 years. At the annual meeting of the Dunedin Cricket Club last night Mr G. A. Wycherley referred to the recent death of Mrs Torrance, mother of the club’s president (Mr R. C. Torrance). Mrs Torrance, who had lived to a ripe old age, had, said Mr Wycherley, endeared herself to all members of the club, of which she had been a loyal supporter and a regular attendant at the official opening for many seasons past.
