LATE SPORTING

SWIMMING RECORD STOCKHOLM, September 26. (Received September 27, at 11.30 aim.)’ Bjoern Borg covered the 200 metre* back stroke in 2min 26 9-10 sec—a European record. AMATEUR CYCLING SELECTUH Of RIDERS The Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association ha« been advised by the selectors of the Dunedin and Invercargill Clubs of the riders selected to train for the national road championship of 100 kilometres (massed start), on November 11. There are. four Dunedin riders—D. Smart, C. Hansen, C. Flowers, and E. Boyd—and from Invercargill A. Drury, P. Meehan, K. Jones, H. Jones, H. Hubber. H. Patton. The Invercargill riders, with the exception of A. Drury, are in future races in their district to ride qff the scratch mark to show that they can stay the distance with A. Drpr.y, who is a scratch man. This will probably forfeit their chances of gaining any further points for cups, etc, but it may entitle them to represent their province at the championships in Wellington. C. Flowers is to ride off the scratch mark in a 100-mile trial race on Saturday with E. Boyd, C. Hansen, and D. Smart, C. Hansen and D. Smart, on past performances, seem to be certain of gaining a place in th» team. These two riders gamed farst and second fastest times respectively the South Island road championship.
