PORT SAILING CLUB

PRIZES PRESENTED The annual social levelling, associated wth the presentation of prizes, was held on Saturday night by the Port Chalmers Yacht and Motor Boat Association. All the clubs round the harbour wore represented, Mr W. M‘Cormack, club commodore, presiding. A number of toasts were honoured, and speakers said the club’s prize presentation was one of the most pleasant vachting events of the year. Mr J. Wilson said that the club was formed nearlv 50 years ago. All were pleased to welcome Mr Alf AViseman, veteran yachtsman, after his recent illness. Mr H. Watson proposed the “ Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association.” Mr D. Cameron, in responding, said the association had received the loyal support of club delegates and had worked in the interests of yachting. Were yachtsmen required, he felt sure they would again render valuable national -assistance.

Mr W.. Clark moved an expression of loyalty,to King and country, the response being unanimous. Mr L. R. Ward proposed the toast of “ Sister Clubs.” Mr G. Geddes, replying, said the Port Club’s annual regatta was always a most successful one. Similar tributes were voiced by the representatives of other clubs, and ■gratification was expressed at the prospect of the ban on petrol lor motor boats being lifted. Mr A. Wiseman, speaking as the senior .yachtsman present, said it was gratifying to see the youth of the community taking on the good old sport of yachting. The mayor (Mr T. Seollay) presented the prizes won during the past season. The Wiseman Cup was won by Evelyn; the Ward Memorial Cup by Foam; and the Holden Memorial Cup by Kia Ora. The club prizes wore: Yachts over 18ft, Kia Ora and Foam equal for first place, with Shadow taking second prize. The Junior Yachtsmen’s Cup was won by Popeye; the under 18ft class—Popeye 1, with Tere, -Toroa, and Runa dividing second prize; motor boats, fßewi..
