RETURNS FOR AUGUST Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 22. (Received September 23, at T p.m.)’ The Board of Trade returns for August show that the imports amounted to £81.096,000, the. exports to £37,076,000, and the re-exports to £4,488,000. The principal increases, compared with August, 1938; were: Imports—Meat £1,642,000, iron ore and scrap £744,000, wood and timber £765,000, wool and raw waste £1,093,000, iron and steel manufactures £l,409,000, machinery £6,246,000, chemicals and dyes £495,000, oils and fats £739,000. Exports—Beverages and cocoa £356,000, cotton yams and manufactures £456,000. Re-exports—Rub-ber £446,000. . The principle. decreases were; Imports—Grain and flour. £2,142,000. Exports : Machinery £479,000. Re-ex-ports : Hides and skins £674,000.
