NEW PLYMOUTH AIRPORT
RAPID PROGRESS ■ [Per United Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, September 17. Rapid progress is being made at the New Plymouth airport with the construction of hangars and accommodation for 200 members of the staff and pilots for training. After a little more than a week the buildings, with substantial concrete l foundations, are taking shape under the hands of carpenters working 10, hours a day for a sixday week. The framework of eight wooden buildings is nearly complete, and the ninth is well started. Nearly 300 carpenters and other workmen are employed under the direction of Public Works Department engineers and New Plymouth building and contracting concerns. Evidence of the change in New Zealand’s economy is afforded by the fact that five former motor salesmen and 12 former motor mechanics are among the workmen.
