RELAXATION DURING WAR SUGGESTED GREATER PRODUCTION WITHOUT OVERTIME (Pee United Press Association.] ASHBURTON, September 11. The Ashburton Hospital Board ha# decided to , request the Government that, in view of the war, the legislation in regard to the 40-hour week bo relaxed in keeping with the Government’s request that production should, be increased. ■ ■ , •, The chairman (Mr W. _G. Gallagher), moving the resolution, said he could not see how the Government’s call for more production could be met if it continued to ask one section of the community to work 40 hours and other sections to work 60 or 70 hours. 5J . ~ In building operations, he added, tno Government jvas giving men largo periods of overtime, and the ■ country was paying out enormous sums in overtime money.
