DOMINION COMPOSERS AND WRITERS
New Zealand composers and lyrists recently celebrated the anniversary of the _ foundation of their club in the Fabian Club Rooms, Auckland, when Miss Lily A. Hobbs (the organiser), supported by popular artists, provided an excellent programme of songs, monologues, character sketches, and plays by New Zealand composers, and producers. Many attractive songs were featured, and all the items were of a high standard. A good attendance of members and friends warmly applauded throughout. A specially interesting item was ‘ The Winning Number,’ one-act prize play written around the popular song by L. A. Hobbs and H. Hiscocks, ‘ In a Spanish Garden.’ This was brilliantly produced and presented by Miss Lillian Braithwaite and her talented pupils. A character sketch by Miss M. Spicer also won much applause.
