There was a picnic from a wee village in the country to the beach on one of the few days in the past summer when we got a glimpse of the sun. So the youngsters got in to bathe. As one wee' chap was making for the water a chum observed: “I say, Wullie, yer no’ hauf dirty! ’’ _ “Ah, ken,” replied Wullie. “Ah missed the train last year.” Last week a country fire brigade answered the first call for three years. There was a smart turn-oUt and an enjoyable time was had by one and all, owing to somebody’s forethought in cycling ahead and persuading the owner of the blaze to be a sport and keep the thing going until the main body arrived..
