WEATHER FORECAST
CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED The following weather forecast wa« issued at noon by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—■ An anti-cyclone extends across the North Tasman Sea and northern New Zealand, and is moving eastwards. The first of a series of westerly depressions is advancing on to the South Island. Forecast: Strong north-west to westerly winds, of gale force in places. Weather cloudy and unsettled, with rain probable. Mild temperatures. Seas becoming rough. FINE AND WARM. Warm temperatures were registered yesterday, and the evening was fine, but cool, with an absence of frost. This morning broke fine, with bright sunshine and a clear sky. There was a strong north-westerly wind, but the temperatures show an advance on yesterday’s readings for the same period. The respective maxima were 62deg and SS.ldeg at 12.30 p.m., with the corresponding minima at 57.1 deg and 48deg. For the 24-hour period yesterday the readings were 60.5 deg and 40deg. Barometric pressure at noon was falling at 29.5 in, as compared with a steady reading at.29.6in yesterday. Indications a£ noon were for a fine and sunny afternoon.
