21 KNOTS IN GALE
AWATEA DUNS TO SCHEDULE QUEEN BALITE A PAStENCEI [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 28. After experiencing a gale last night coming down the New Zealand coast, the Awatea arrived to schedule time this morning, easily making up the extra half-hour of summertime. Captain Davey said the ship behaved wonderfully. She averaged 21 knots until the last four hours of the trip, when he reduced to 17 in order not to arrive in port ahead of schedule. She berthed without assistance. The vessel was flying the Tongan standard in deference to Queen Salote and Prince Tugi, her consort and Prune Minister. ....... Mr N. S. Falla, managing director of the Union Company, who has been on a business visit to Australia, said, the new ship was enthusiastically received at Sydney.
