The motor vessel Hokitika when entering the port on Saturday evening at Hokitika found the channel most difficult and grounded, tho bow being stuck for some time. By expert seamanship Captain Nalder manoeuvred tho vessel seaward, and, despite the steering gear having jammed, Captain Nalder succeeded at tho third attempt in negotiating the bar, reaching the wharf safely. The vessel’s only damage was to the propeller blade, due to contact with tho shingle when being freed after grounding.
