RUDDER SMASHED
TWO NEW PROPELLERS NEEDED DAMAGE TO MATUA [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, September 26. When the Matua docked to-day it was revealed that practically the whole rudder had been smashed off, and both propellers are so damaged that they will have to be replaced. That Captain Prosser and his crew were able to bring the vessel from Rarotonga, after striking the reef, at an average speed of nine knots, is a tribute to magnificent seamanship. * The damage has not yet been officially surveyed, and it is impossible to state how long the vessel will be docked.
