Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, September 25. (Received September 26, at 11.45 a.m.) The wool sales closed with an offering of 10,258 bales, including 6,149 from New Zealand. Altogether 8,219 bales were sold. There was a moderate selection which sold well at current rates. Inferiors were largely withdrawn. New Zealand slipe half-bred lambs “ Belfast,” top price 18 Jd, average 18Jd; Greasy half-bred “ J2, ” 15d and 15d. Throughout the series 97,30.0 bales were offered and 84,500 were sold. The Home trade bought 61,600, the Continent 29,000, and America 4,000, while 33,500 were held over. The total sales were: 331,000 bales; New Zeasales were: Australian, 31,000 bales; New Zealand, 42,500. Merino spinners’ warp wools sold well throughout at July rates, with a gradually hardening tendency. Continental ordinary topmaking styles recovered most of the opening decline. Faulty and inferior fleeces and pieces improved at the close to 5 per cent, below July. Good s'coureds were 5 per cent, above, and faulty were par to 6 per cent, easier, cross-breds, greasy medium, hardened throughout to close 5 per cent, above. Coarse were 12f per cent, above, and scoured, medium coarse, 10 per cent, above. LONDON PRODUCE. MARKET. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London Office, under date 25th inst.:— “Frozen meat :The market for wethers is quiet but firm. The demand for light-weight ewes is good. For lambs there is a moderate demand, and prices are firm. Wethers: Light, 4#d to 5Jd per lb; heavy,-4d to 4Jd per lb. Ewes: 3)d to 4fd per lb. Lambs: Twos; 7id to 7jd; eights, 7d to 7Jd; fours, 6jd to 6|d per lb; seconds, 6|d to 74d.” Messrs ( Dalgety and Co. advise having received the following cablegram from their head office, London, dated 25th inst.:— “ Wool sales closed active. There was good competition except for merino sWt and faulty, which was irregular. Home trade were principal operators, with good support from Continent. Following is a range of prices realised: —Merino: Good to super., 16d to 18d; low to medium, 12d to 16Jd. Halfbred, 66-58: Good to super., 14Jd to 16Jd; low to medium, lid to 14d; 50-56; good to super., lljd to 13d; low to medium, 9Jd to lid. Fine crossbred, 48-50: Good to super., 10Jd to lid • low to medium, 9d to lOd. 46-48: Good to super., lOd to lOJd; low to medium, Bfd to 9-Jd. Cross-bred, 4446: Good to super., 9|d to 10Jd; low to medium, Bid to 9Jd. 40-44: Good to super., 9Jd to lOd; low to medium, 84d to 9id. Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs : A good volume of business was put through at the final call of the week, a feature being a sale in Bank of New Zealand’s, 6d lower at £1 18s 6d, with more on offer £1 18s 8d and buyers 4d below Nationals of Australasia were traded at £7. . They also showed a substantial decline, 8s 6d since the last sale in May. South British Insurances had a stronger market between £4 9s 9d and £4 11s. The Australian issues generally were neglected, though Broken Hills had better offers of £3 15s 9d, sellers standing at £3 16d. Among local industrials Berlei (New Zealand) returned to the sales list, having a transaction at £3. Wilson’s Cements maintained the recent advance. Martha Mines were in demand, buyers’ offers being raised by 9d to 9s, and sellers standing 6d above. Waihi Junction, however, showed a sharp drop to business at 3s 3d.
