RICH MIXTURE

A story related to a correspondent by the chief engineer on a motor vessel plying between Liverpool and Belfast _ Off duty ho is a keen motorist. The other day he started up his car in his garage. He left the engine running for a while to warm it up, but suddenly it stepped. Every time ho restarted it it ran for a moment or two and then died. Methodically and with increasing weariness he cheeked over petrol supply, carburetion, ignition, valves, and all the likely and unlikely items that might cause the trouble. Still the engine would only start, splutter, and stop. He gave it up eventually and turned to go back to his house. Then he saw something which brought the light of a great understanding. On the floor sat his small daughter, covered in soot, but supremely happy. For half an hour she had been amusing herself jabbing a broom handle up the exhaust pipe!
