‘ TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The writer is in complete agreement with “ Opus 1 ” in his criticism of the last concert. May I suggest that in future tho recent conductor, M. de Rose (who brought this now famous orchestra into existence) be invited to give his opinion before items are presented to the paying public? This would at least ensure an experienced and matured judgment on standard. It would be a great loss to musical Dunedin if all his ground work . (often, we know, carried out under conditions of ill-health) should be wasted. The new conductor is to bo congratulated on his appointment with this already famous orchestra, and should find that only a little effort, in comparison to work done, should be necessary to keep \up the high standard attained. In justification of tho suggestion given I will quote— u Unity is Strength. —I am, etc,, _ _ September 21. Tune Ur.
