RANFURLY SHIELD.
TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —The last- shield match of the season . will be played next Saturday, and football will give place to cricket. Are the 25,000 to 30,000 football enthusiasts going to allow the season to close without giving the defenders of the shield some memento in recognition of their splendid achievements? Are we going to do something worthy of a great team ? If so, we must strike while tho iron is hot, and I suggest that the Management Committee of the Otago Rugby Football Union set the ball rolling, and call a meeting for Wednesday or Thursday night. Next week will be too late. I am sure that if a properly organised movement is set on foot there are many thousands who would be pleased to subscribe a small sum so that our worthy representatives, who have so worthily upheld the honour of Otago on the football field, may_ receive some permanent and tangible recognition of the most victorious and outstanding year in the history of football in Otago, defeating all-comers from the North Capo to Bluff. If this meeting is called I shall bo pleased to attend and submit a proposal, but again I repeat that next week is too late if success is to be achieved. Honour to whom honour is due!—l am, etc, September 21. A. R. Lawry.
