MONTHLY MEETING The'monthly meeting of tho committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon, ami the various districts were represented by the following:—Messrs F. J. Conn (president), in the chair, I<. S. Artlim, J. Little, John Young, D. Andrew, L. C Hazlett, J. Mitchell, D. M. Reid, H. M Driver, B. S. Irwin, W. S. Thomson, E. M. North, A. Johnson, K. Clark, J. M. Fraser, J. A. Fowler, W. Lee, to. Bowman, and J. N. Murdoch. _ Before commencing the business ot the meeting, the president referred to the losses the society had suffered during the last month by the deaths of a number of members and judges. A resolution of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Mr Georgo Law (Gunmerburn), Mr Robert Lee (Anderson s Bay), Mr G. H. Craig (Mosgicl), Mr Leonard A. Walker (Dunedin), and Miss Kempshell (Maungatua). A lurther motion of sympathy was passed with Mr Joseph Mosley, member lor the Clutha district, on the death ol his sister, Mrs Dabinette. The Finance Committee, which met on Tuesday, recommended payment of accounts amounting _to £1,189 4s 3d. Other business relating to finance was referred to a special committed for attention. The following new members were proposed and elected;—Mr W. Cameron, farmer, Waitahuna, and Mr F. J I'innegart, Gridiron Hotel, Dunedin. The Secretary reported that Messrs W. J. Taylor, Ashton, and Simon Fleming, Crookston, had agreed_ to officiate as judges at the forthcoming stallion parade, to be held at Tahuna Park nest Thursday. He also reported that 27 entries bad been received for tins parade, and the prospects of an interesting and successful fixture were particularly good. SUMMER SHOW JUDGES. Although a number of the judges nominated for the Summer Show had not yet replied, the following nominations had been accepted to date:— Cattle.—Milking Shorthorns: Mi J. Bateman, Invercargill. Ayrshires: Mr John Parlane, Halswell. Jerseys and dairy cattle: Mr Rolf Clarke, Edondale. Fat cattle. Mr A. G. Sherriff, Dunedin Sheep.—Merinos, Corriedalea, and fine-wool cross-breds: Mr 8. W. Ayson, Waikaka. Romney Marsh: Mr Alan Grant, Waimate. Bordei Leicester. English Leicester, and strong-wool cross-breds; Mi J. J. M'Crostie, Invercargill. Downs: Mr W. J. Jenkins, Sheffield. Draught Horses.—Breeding section : Mr John Tisdall, Oamaru. Light Horses and Competitions.— Harness norses and hackneys: Mr A. S. Elworthy, Tiniaru. Cobs and ponies: Mr M. C. Harper, Tiniaru. Pony trots: Messrs J. Mitchell and A. Jlark. Pigs.—Mr A. Gray, Seacliff. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Clydesdale Horse Society with the advice that its silver medal would be awarded again \to the winner of the Wright, Stephenson Cup at the parade. The Secretary of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Broard wrote enclosing conditions for the forthcoming season’s fat lamb competition. According to the conditions arrangements would be made to send the awards at the local competitions Horae to Smithfield, but they would not be disclosed to the English judges until they had made their awards. The board’s London manager would endeavour to have the judges make a separate report when any pen awarded a prize in the New Zealand events was not placed in London. A letter was received from tho secretary of the Palmerston and Waihemo A. and P. Association nominating Mr E. Congalton, Shag Point, as member of the committee for the Palmerston and Waihemo district. The nomination was signed by Mr George Russ and seconded fay Mr A Fleming.—Mr Congalton was unanimously elected to represent the northern district on the council of the Otago A. and P. Society. GENERAL. The President again reminded conveners of sub-committees that any alterations or additions to tho schedule for the forthcoming show would have to be in the secretary’s hands at an early date, as the copy was ready for the printer. Two n,ew trophies were acknowledged with thanks and appreciation. A shield from Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. for most points in pure-bred cattle in the beef section— Shorthorns, and Polled Angus—and from Mr George Ross (Palmerston) a challenge shield to be given in the sheep dog section. A special vote of thanks was passed to both donors for their, generous donations. The Sheep Committee, which met before the General Committee, reported that Mr James Little had agreed to officiate as judge for the ewe hogget competition in the Mnniototo district. Other judges were nominated for the se eral districts in Otago for which exhibits were expected.
