IS COMMUNISM CHRISTIAN.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I would ask Mr G. A. Herring where he got his knowledge of Communism. Has he read the ‘Communist Manifesto ’ or the ‘ International Programme of Communism ’ ? Above all, has he any acquaintance with the works of Karl Marx, whose theories are the basis of Communism? Communists do not speak of brothers, for they do not believe in the institution we call the family. They call one another Comrade, not The Communists are definitely anti-Chris-tian and atheistical. They are opposed to all forms of what they call mysticism. Communists base their philosophy and practice on _ classhatred. Christians base their philosophy and practice on the brotherhood of men. Communists believe that society can only be bettered properly through civil war, through armed and violent revolution. Does Mr Herring really not understand that to-day, the philosophy _of class-hatred threatens _ the Christian ideal in a way that is the greatest danger Christianity has .ever faced? Has Mr Herring been living in some out-of-the-way place where he was kept ignorant of what goes on in the world, and just returned to our civilised society?—l am, etc., Anti-Communist. September 16.
