WEATHER FORECAST

MAINLY 1 FAIR AND MILD The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton. Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—■ A depression crossed the Dominion last night, and another is advancing across the_ South Tasman Sea. Pressure has risen over South-eastern Australia. Forecast: Moderate to strong westerly winds prevailing, increasing to gaje force at places. Weather mainly. fair and mild, but changeable, with rain at times. Seas rough. Wind turning later in places to the south-west, with cooler temperatures. FINE, BUT COLD. Very warm temperatures were experienced yesterday afternoon and evening, hut at 10 p.m. a heavy, shower of rain fell. This morning broke fine, with a change to colder temperatures, and a strong northeasterly wind in evidence. To-day the thermometer registered a maximum of 56.5 deg., with a minimum of 49deg.,> a considerable decrease on the readings over a 24-hour period yesterday, 70.5 and 44deg. At 12.80 p.m. yesterday the temperatures were 68.5 and 49deg. respectively. Rainfall last evening amounted to .02in, there being no frost. At noon, to-day barometric pressure was falling at 29.7 in, and indications were for a fine but cold afternoon.
