THEFT OF CARPETS
WAREHOUSEMAN'S LAPSE COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE [Pee United Press, Association.] WELLINGTON, September 16. Henry George Pearce (37), a warehouseman, pleaded guilty to-day to the theft between December, 1933, and August of this year, of carpets valued at £248 15s 7d, the property of James Templeton and Co. Ltd., and was casimitted for sentence. \ Mr Crawford, the manager, said that accused was in the company’s employ for 15 years, and had charge of the warehouses and supervised the despatch of carpets, but had no authority to dispose of goods outside his usual routine, or handle or receive any moneys. The records of all the sales had to he made in a day book. On August 31, following certain discoveries, lie interviewed accused, who admitted shortages of approximately £250. Only one of the transactions was recorded in the books. Bail was allowed in the sura of £l5O.
