MOSGIEL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL

The Rev. Hugh Graham presided at the monthly meeting of the Mosgiel School Committee. There was a full attendance of members. The rector reported on the staff 1 changes of the past month. Mr Andrews had commenced duties, Miss Allan had received a permanent position at Riverton School, and Mr Williamson was an additional assistant. Two acknowledgments had been forwarded from those who had received three from the school gardens, with a letter from the borough council thanking the school for assistance on Arbor Day.—Received. The Visiting Committee reported on the monthly visit to the school. Messrs Hendry and Nicol were appointed a visiting committee for September. The inspectors’ report on the annual examination of the school -was laid on the table. This was of a very satisfactory nature. The head master had organised the teaching duties so that comprehensive modern courses of instruction were provided. The teachers were employing approved methods of instruction with commendable earnestness. The order, discipline, and tone were good. The gardens continued to be an excellent feature of the school. The inspectors were pleased with the orderly assembly, and the new radio equipment was being used to advantage. The secondary department was a valuable asset. The Education Board wrote in co,nnection with repairs to the school asphalt. This was a subsidy matter, and, if the committee were willing to assist, the work could be put in band. —To be attended to when funds were available. It was resolved to apply for the subsidy mentioned in a letter to the committee from the board for the installation of the school radio. The need of funds to procure many things required was discussed, and it was decided to hold a community sing at an early , date and a garden party later.
