CLERGY AND COMMUNISTS
DIVERGENCE OF BELIEFS Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, September 27. The Communist Party- at Granville, a suburb, preparatory to holding a meeting to advocate ‘‘ hands off Abyssinia.” sent invitations to the clergy in the district to attend and. give their cooperation. The spokesman for the clergy replied regretting that they were unable to attend. “We desire your Communist organisation to know that the Christian Church is against war, whether Imperialist or Bolshevist. We strongly condemn Italy’s attack on Abyssinia, but feel we cannot associate ourselves with the 'Communist Party, which waged relentless war on religion throughout the world. We say emphatically not only * hands off Abyssinia,’ but ‘ hands off religion.’ ”
