[From Our Baidu Mm Correspondent,] CRICKET. The annual meeting of the Glutha Cricket Club was held on Wednesday night, when Mr J. H. Guest presided over a very good attendance of members. The annual report stated that the A team had won both the shield and cup competitions, while the B team, although not winning any trophies, had put up a good performance. In senior grade practically all the members' had gained rep. honours, while several of the junior players had gained rep. honours,in B grade. The balance sheet showed a debit of £l7, which was slightly better than that with which .the season opened, but.the fact that two teams had been catered for accounted for heavier expense. The report and balance sheet were adopted, and an appeal made to members to make an endeavour to increase the honorary member’s’. The following,officer's were elected: — Patron, Mr I*. M'Skimming, M.P.; president, Mr A. K. Baxter; several vicepresidents were elected; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. L. Guest (re-elected); auditor, Mr J.'M. Doggart (re-elected) ; selectors—Messrs G. Lennox, W. Henderson, A. Baxter, and captains of teams; coaches—Messrs Henderson, Baxter, Lennox, and Swinton; delegate to Sports Ground Committee, Mr Henderson ; association delegates, Messrs Baxter and J. Guest; committee— Messrs J. H. Stevenson, Baxter, Henderson, Lennox, T. Gold, L. Moffat, A. Stewart, L. Cockerill, R. Hutton, Dr Frengley- The election of captain was left over till the opening day on October 12. , Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring president, Mr J. H. Guest,, for Iris three years’ sendees, and to others who had assisted in keeping the game going with such success. There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Owaka Cricket Club. The balance sheet shelved a debit of £2 2s 6d. The following office-bear-ers were elected:—President, Mr Don Finlayson; vice-presidents Messrs Bayly, G. A. Johnstone, C. Copper, and Rev. R. Blair; secretary, Mr H. Brownlie; General Committee—Messrs Chap-man-Cohen, M'Lelland, H. and A. Brownlie, A. Bryant; association delegates, Messrs H. Brownlie and M'Lelland. Opening day was fixed for October 5.

Prospects are that cricket,will, again be strong in South Otago this year, it is stated that there is .a likelihood of a club being formed at Beuhar, while all clubs represented last year will again have teams entered in the competitions. TENNIS. Mr W. R. Scott presided over a good attendance 1 at the annual meeting of the Balclutha Tennis Club. The annual report stated that the’ membership was 54, and that the A team had won the South Otago competition, whilq the B team had only lost two matches in its grade. The singles championships had been won by Mrs Hair and Mr Botting. The balance sheet showed that there was an improvement in the funds of some £l6, leaving the overdraft at £l5O. About a dozen new members wore proposed and the prospects are for a successful season. GENERAL. Four South Otago cheese factories— Stirling, Parctai, Fairfield, and Kaitaiigata—have disposed of their October output at the satisfactory price of s ld per lb. | On Wednesday night a ball was held in Balclutha under the auspices of the Labour Party. There was a large attendance. and a very'enjoyable time was spout. The Otago University Orchestra provided the music. The ball was under the patronage of the Rev. E. T. Cox, Mayor of Dunedin and Labour candidate for Clutlia, and Mr and Mrs D. T. Fleming, Mayor and Mayoress of BaJclutha. During the course of the function Mr Cox briefly addressed those present. At the meeting of the Balclutha Borough Council it was decided that in future no charge be made to property owners for the cost of laying down permanent footpaths, only hallVcost of kerbing and channelling to be asked| for. There was considerable discussion on the matter, and the motion was agreed to by five votes to three. In the past property owners have had to pay half-cost of both the kerbing and channelling and the footpath. At the meeting of Clutlia County Council on Tuesday a letter was read from the Minister of Public Works that after further consideration it had been agreed to increase the subsidy on the cost of the bridge over the Molyneux at Clydevale from £1 for £2 to £ for £, one condition being that the local bodies concerned paid their share (£5,300) before the material was ordered and the bridge started. If they were prepared to do this the work would bo put in hand almost immediately. The council agreed to accept the offer and to ma ke arrangements for the providing of the necessary money. Between 30 and 40 angling enthusiasts met in Balclutha on Wednesday night to consider the formation of a South Otago Angling Club. Short addresses were given by Messrs Turner (president Otago Acclimatisation Society), Williams, Maconic, Wilson (president Otago Angling Club). Barnes, and David. After a general discussion a provisional committee was sot up, consisting of Messrs F. Poynter, A. Buchanan, H. and G. Sinclair, R. M'Bridc, and A. J. Henderson, to go into tho matter of forming a club in South Otago, and to procure data for presentation at a future meeting.
