MUNICIPAL ACCOUNTS

FINANCE COMMITTEE'S REPORT The Finance Committee will report ti the meeting of the City Council 01 Monday night that, in terms of tin. Municipal Corporations Act, 193 d, tin council is required to prepare annual! a statement of receipts and payment for each of the corporation depart ments. The council is also required in tin case of the trading departments to prepare profit and loss accounts on a proper accountancy basis. The receipts and payments statement, so far as the trading departments are concerned, serves no useful purpose, and is apt to oonfn'sc anyone perusing the account-', besides wasting a considerable amount of time in the treasury. The committee accordingly recommends that the matter be brought to the notice-of the Municipal Association with a request that an endeavour he made to obtain an amendment to the regulations under the Municipal Corporations Act providing that, in all cases of trading 'departments, where a local authority is required by law to prepare a profit and loss account, it shall not be necessary to prepare an additional statement of receipts and payments. It may be added that the privilege has already been extended to power boards.
